The Art of Telkari

Telkari — known to the world as filigree — is one of humankind’s oldest and most demanding forms of metalwork. Fine threads of pure silver are drawn thinner than a strand of hair, then twisted, curled and soldered into lace-like patterns held together by nothing but the steadiness of a master’s hand. There are no shortcuts and no machines that can replace the eye and the touch of a true craftsman.

The technique reaches back thousands of years, from the workshops of ancient Mesopotamia through the Byzantine and Ottoman courts, where filigree adorned everything from prayer objects to royal jewels. In Anatolia this heritage never faded. It was passed quietly from master to apprentice, generation after generation, surviving as living memory rather than a museum piece.

Born in Midyat, in the Ancient City of Mardin

Our jewelry is crafted in Midyat, a district of the ancient city of Mardin in southeastern Anatolia. Perched on a hill of honey-colored stone, Mardin has watched civilizations rise and fall for millennia, and its old streets still echo with the tap of the silversmith’s tools. For centuries Midyat has been the beating heart of Turkish telkari, home to families who have devoted their lives to this single, patient art.

At the Workbench

In our atelier, a master sits at his worn wooden bench, bent over a flame no larger than a candle’s. Between his fingers, hair-thin silver threads come to life — coiled into tiny scrolls, joined with a breath of solder, and assembled into patterns that seem impossibly delicate. Hours pass for a single motif. What looks weightless on your skin is, in truth, the sum of a lifetime of practice.

From Sketch to Silver

Every collection begins with a pencil, not a machine. At a quiet corner of the studio, our designer draws each piece by hand — tracing curves, testing proportions, and imagining how light will move across the finished silver. These hand-drawn sketches are then carried to the workbench, where the masters translate ink into metal. It is a dialogue between the woman who dreams the form and the craftsman who gives it life.
