Our Silver
925 sterling silver, and what that number really means
What does "925 sterling silver" mean?
The number 925 is a statement of purity: 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with 7.5% of other metals — most commonly copper. That is the international standard for sterling silver, and it is why you will find the tiny "925" hallmark stamped on fine jewelry all over the world.
Every Erdobia piece is made of genuine 925 sterling silver unless the product page states otherwise.
Why not 100% pure silver?
Because pure silver (999) is beautiful but far too soft to live on a hand or a neck. It bends out of shape, scratches easily, and cannot hold a stone setting or a fine filigree thread.
The 7.5% of alloy is what gives sterling silver its strength, its spring, and its ability to be polished to a mirror finish — while keeping the warmth and depth of colour that only real silver has. It is the balance jewellers settled on centuries ago, and nothing has improved on it since.
Is the hallmark stamped on every piece?
Yes. Wherever the design allows it — inside a ring band, on a clasp, on the back of a pendant or an earring post — you will find the 925 stamp. On extremely fine filigree work the mark may be placed on the smallest flat surface available, so it can take a magnifier to spot.
What are rhodium, gold and rose gold plating?
Many of our pieces begin as 925 sterling silver and are then finished with a micro-thin layer of another precious metal:
- Rhodium — a member of the platinum family. It gives a bright white finish and adds a protective layer that slows tarnishing.
- Gold / rose gold — a warm finish applied over the silver, sometimes called vermeil-style plating.
The base metal underneath is always 925 sterling silver. Plating is a surface, not a solid layer: with daily wear, contact with perfume, chlorine or friction it will gradually soften in colour over time. The care advice below is what keeps it looking new for years rather than months.
What are the stones you use?
Most of our sparkle comes from cubic zirconia — a hard, brilliantly clear stone cut in the same way as a diamond — and from coloured enamel work. Some pieces feature natural gemstones such as citrine or turquoise. The exact stone, colour and finish are always listed in the product description.
Is sterling silver suitable for sensitive skin?
925 sterling silver is one of the metals most commonly recommended for sensitive skin, and rhodium plating adds a further barrier between the alloy and your skin. That said, sensitivity is individual and no jeweller can promise a reaction-free experience. If you have a diagnosed metal allergy, write to us at erdobiallc@gmail.com before ordering and we will tell you exactly how a particular piece is finished.
Why did my silver darken?
It hasn't been damaged — it has tarnished, and that is a natural, reversible reaction between silver and the sulphur in air, water, cosmetics and even skin. Humidity, perfume, hairspray, chlorine and salt water all speed it up.
Tarnish lifts away with a few seconds of gentle polishing. See Care & Cleaning below.
Handcraft & Heritage
Made by hand in Midyat, Mardin
What is telkari (filigree)?
Telkari — known internationally as filigree — is one of the oldest and most demanding forms of metalwork in the world. Threads of pure silver are drawn thinner than a strand of hair, then twisted, curled and soldered into lace-like patterns held together by nothing but the steadiness of a master's hand.
The technique reaches back thousands of years, from the workshops of ancient Mesopotamia through the Byzantine and Ottoman courts. In Anatolia it never faded: it was passed quietly from master to apprentice, generation after generation.
Where are your pieces made?
Our filigree jewelry is crafted in Midyat, a district of the ancient city of Mardin in southeastern Anatolia. Perched on a hill of honey-coloured stone, Mardin has watched civilisations rise and fall for millennia, and its old streets still echo with the tap of the silversmith's tools. Midyat has been the beating heart of Turkish telkari for centuries — home to families who have devoted their lives to this single, patient art.
How is a piece actually made?
Every collection begins with a pencil, not a machine.
- The sketch. Our designer draws each piece by hand — tracing curves, testing proportions, imagining how light will move across the finished silver.
- Drawing the thread. Silver is pulled through progressively smaller dies until it is finer than a hair, then twisted into the double-thread that gives filigree its texture.
- Shaping. At the bench, over a flame no larger than a candle's, the master coils each thread into scrolls and rosettes and joins them with a breath of solder. A single motif can take hours.
- Assembly and finishing. The elements are built into the final form, cleaned, polished, and — where the design calls for it — plated and set with stones.
- Inspection and packing. Each piece is checked by hand before it is boxed.
You can read the longer story on our Our Philosophy page.
Why does my piece look slightly different from the photo?
Because it was made by a person, not stamped out by the thousand. Handcrafted work carries small variations in colour, finish and size, and studio lighting renders silver differently from daylight — as does every screen. These differences are the signature of handwork, not a defect. What stays constant is the material, the standard and the care.
Do you make custom or personalized pieces?
Yes. Personalized and custom-made designs require an additional 3–5 business days of production, and — because they are made specifically for you — they cannot be returned or exchanged unless they arrive damaged or defective. To discuss a commission, write to erdobiallc@gmail.com.
Care & Cleaning
A few minutes of care, a lifetime of wear
The golden rules — last on, first off
Silver is a living metal. Almost everything that dulls it comes from the bathroom cabinet, not from time.
- Put your jewelry on last, after perfume, lotion, hairspray and make-up — and take it off first, before anything else.
- Remove it before showering, swimming, exercising, cleaning or sleeping.
- Keep it away from chlorine, salt water, bleach and household cleaning products.
- Avoid contact with perspiration and humidity for long periods.
- Wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth after every wear — this single habit prevents most tarnish.
How do I clean my silver at home?
For everyday dullness: rub the piece gently with a silver polishing cloth, following the length of the metal rather than circling. Thirty seconds is usually enough.
For a deeper clean of plain (unplated, unset) silver:
- Add a drop of mild, phosphate-free dish soap to a bowl of lukewarm water.
- Let the piece soak for 2–3 minutes.
- Brush very gently with a soft baby toothbrush, paying attention to the gaps in the pattern.
- Rinse in clean lukewarm water.
- Dry immediately and completely with a soft lint-free cloth — trapped moisture is what causes new tarnish.
Never use bleach, ammonia, abrasive pastes, toothpaste, baking-soda scrubs or ultrasonic cleaners on our jewelry. They scratch the surface, strip plating and can loosen stones.
Is anything different for plated, filigree or stone-set pieces?
Yes — these need a lighter hand.
- Rhodium, gold and rose gold plated pieces: use a dry, soft cloth only. Polishing cloths impregnated with cleaning agents and any chemical dip will wear the plating away. Never soak plated jewelry for long periods.
- Filigree: the threads are fine and the openwork is delicate. Wipe rather than scrub, never pull a cloth through the pattern, and avoid pressing on the lacework.
- Enamel and stone-set designs: avoid soaking and heat, keep them away from ultrasonic cleaners, and dry them face down on a soft cloth so no water sits behind the setting.
How should I store my jewelry?
Store each piece separately — in the pouch or box it arrived in, or in a lined jewelry box — so pieces cannot scratch one another. Keep them somewhere dry and dark; humidity is silver's real enemy. A small anti-tarnish strip or a sachet of silica gel in the box helps considerably. Fasten chains before storing so they do not knot.
Can tarnished silver be brought back?
Almost always, yes. Tarnish is a surface layer, not damage. A polishing cloth restores everyday dullness in seconds; heavier tarnish in the recesses of filigree work may need a professional clean. If you are unsure, send us a photograph at erdobiallc@gmail.com and we will advise you before you try anything.
Ring Size Guide
Three ways to find your size — no jeweller required
Method 1 — Measure a ring you already own
Take a ring that fits the intended finger, place it on a millimetre ruler and measure the inner diameter from edge to edge, straight through the middle. Then find that measurement in the table below.
Method 2 — Measure your finger with a strip of paper
- Cut a strip of paper about 10 cm long and 1 cm wide (do not use elastic material).
- Wrap it snugly around the base of your finger — comfortable, not tight.
- Mark where the strip overlaps, then lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres.
- That length is your inner circumference. Find it in the table below.
Method 3 — Use our printable ruler
Print this page at 100% / actual size (make sure "fit to page" or "shrink to fit" is switched off). Check the scale first: a standard bank card laid on the ruler should measure exactly 85.6 mm.
You can also lay a ring you own directly over the circles below. The printed circle should sit just inside the band, touching its inner edge.

Tips for an accurate measurement
- Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest.
- Avoid measuring when your hands are cold — fingers can shrink by as much as half a size.
- Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger than the other.
- The ring must pass over your knuckle. If your knuckle is noticeably wider than the base of your finger, choose the size that clears it.
- Wide bands feel tighter than thin ones — go up half a size for a band wider than about 6 mm.
- If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger.
How do I adjust an adjustable ring?
Hold the band on both sides of the opening and ease it open or closed gently and gradually, with your fingers rather than pliers. Never force it in one movement, never twist the decorated front, and adjust as little as possible — repeated bending fatigues any metal. Slide the ring on, then close it lightly so it rests comfortably without pressing.
Can I still get it wrong?
If a non-adjustable ring doesn't fit, it can be returned within 30 days provided it is unworn and in original condition — see the returns section below. And if you would rather be sure before ordering, email us the inner diameter or circumference you measured and we will tell you which size to choose.

Shipping & Delivery
Worldwide, with UPS
Do you ship internationally, and what does it cost?
Yes — Erdobia ships worldwide. All orders are sent via UPS at a flat rate of $15 USD per order, regardless of how many items you buy or where you live.
How long will my order take?
Orders are processed within 1–3 business days (Monday–Friday, excluding public holidays) after payment is confirmed. Personalized and custom-made items need an extra 3–5 business days for production.
Estimated delivery times from the date of dispatch:
- United States: 3–7 business days
- Europe & United Kingdom: 5–10 business days
- Rest of the world: 7–20 business days
These are estimates rather than guarantees; peak seasons and customs processing can add time.
How do I track my parcel?
As soon as your order ships you will receive a confirmation email containing your UPS tracking number. Please allow up to 48 hours for the first scan to appear in the tracking system.
Will I have to pay customs duties or import taxes?
Possibly — and this is worth knowing before you order. Our prices do not include customs duties, import taxes or handling fees. All orders ship on a Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis, which means any charges applied by your country are the responsibility of the customer and are collected by the carrier or customs authority before or upon delivery.
Erdobia has no control over these charges and cannot predict their amount; your local customs office can tell you what to expect. If a parcel is refused and returned or destroyed because duties were not paid, original and return shipping costs are non-refundable.
My tracking says delivered, but nothing arrived.
Please check with your neighbours and your local UPS access point first, as parcels are sometimes left with them. If it still hasn't appeared — or if tracking suggests the parcel is lost in transit — contact us at erdobiallc@gmail.com within 14 days and we will open an investigation with UPS on your behalf.
Returns, Exchanges & Refunds
Thirty days to be sure
What is your return window?
You have 30 days from the date your order is delivered to request a return. Items must be unused, unworn, in original condition and returned in their original packaging, together with proof of purchase (your order number or receipt).
I'm ordering from the EU or the UK — do I have extra rights?
Yes. If you order from the European Union or the United Kingdom you may cancel your order within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason. This statutory right of withdrawal applies in addition to our standard 30-day return window. The exceptions listed below still apply.
Which items cannot be returned?
For hygiene and safety reasons, and in line with international consumer law, the following are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged unless they arrive damaged or defective:
- Personalized or custom-made items (for example name necklaces or engraved pieces)
- Pierced earrings
- Gift cards
- Items marked "Final Sale"
How do I start a return?
Email erdobiallc@gmail.com with your order number and the reason for the return. Our team will review your request and send you return instructions along with the return address.
Please do not send anything back before you receive confirmation from us — unannounced returns cannot be processed.
Who pays for return shipping?
Unless the item is defective, damaged or incorrect, return shipping is paid by the customer, and original shipping charges are non-refundable. We recommend a trackable service, as we cannot take responsibility for parcels lost on their way back to us. Customs duties or import taxes paid on the original order are not refundable.
My item arrived damaged, faulty or wrong.
We're sorry — please inspect your order on delivery and contact us within 7 days at erdobiallc@gmail.com with photographs of the issue. We will cover return shipping and either send a replacement or issue a full refund including the original shipping cost.
When will I get my refund?
Once your return reaches us it is inspected and you are notified whether the refund is approved. Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within 10 business days. Banks and card issuers may need additional time to post the amount to your account.
If more than 10 business days have passed since approval, please check with your bank first, then contact us and we will follow it up.
Can I exchange an item for something else?
The fastest way is to return the eligible item and place a new order once your return has been accepted — this way your preferred piece is reserved for you straight away rather than waiting for the exchange to be processed.
